New permanent exhibitions. The power of monarchy and networks of ascendancy.
The Royal Armory, Sweden's oldest museum, founded in 1628 by Gustav II Adolf, is housed in the spectacular and beautiful cellar vaults of the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The former exhibition was created in 1978 by architect Ivar Lind. We had the pleasure to redo the architecture for the new permanent exhibitions. The overall theme is how monarchy have legitimized its power through the ages. An exhibition aiming for equal representation, an intersectional gender perspective and working with norm-critical issues. For the unique exhibition,TAS and JAC Studios designed narrative elements that presents both the collected and the preserved artifacts from known characters and the characters not so known. A concept that evokes the missing characters of history -predominantly women, with no artifacts collected, preserved or presented informer museum history.
The design deals with visitor involvement with emphasis on craft and making along side with media and technology. The lighting solutions are designed to emphasize the suggestive spatial perspective of the cellar vaults. The lightning solution also adds a scenic setting and focus to the historical artifacts. Spatial installations that invite for reflection.
The exhibition is organized in several themes in relation to story and flow. Providing space for interactive experiences and school programs.
